NNPCL: Tinubu, Kyari Has Restored Confidence Of Nigerians Says Ohanaeze Ndigbo

The Apex Igbo Sociocultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) for their resolute decision-making and exemplary resolve in addressing the persisting inefficiencies and alarming operational failures entrenched within the higher echelons of NNPC Ltd.

A Statement issued by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro  Secretary General  Ohanaeze Ndigbo  said such decisive leadership intervention is a powerful testament to their commitment to restructuring, realigning, and reinvigorating this vital institution, which holds the keys to Nigeria's energy future and, by extension, its economic stability.

"The news of the sacking of top executives in NNPC Ltd has reverberated across the nation, inciting expressions of optimism and jubilation among Nigerians from all walks of life. This decisive response to the rampant challenges faced by NNPC Ltd exemplifies political courage—a critical move that promises to usher in a new era of accountability and performance in the management of our national oil company.

"As citizens grapple with unbearable inflation rates and skyrocketing prices of petroleum products that have severely impacted the cost of living, the timely dismissal of these individuals renews hopes and alleviates some of the collective despair that has gripped the populace.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo expressed their form stand in its advocacy for systemic change within NNPC's leadership framework, having previously highlighted the urgent need for a strategic overhaul given the multiple years of operational stagnation and subpar executive oversight, adding that the recent dismissals of Umar Ajiya, former Chief Financial Officer, and Oritesemeyiwa Eyesan, former Vice President (Upstream), are candidly seen as pivotal and crucial maneuvers that signify the administration's unwavering commitment to rooting out inefficiencies and promoting excellence in our nation's petroleum sector.

"We duly note and commend the illustrious leadership displayed by President Tinubu and Mr. Kyari in executing these necessary changes. The strategic removal of individuals who have consistently failed to meet performance expectations demonstrates a profound understanding of the urgency required to transform NNPC Ltd into a world-class entity capable of matching its peers globally".

Ohanaeze Ndigbo extended their heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Adedapo Segun, the newly appointed Chief Financial Officer; Mr. Isiyaku Abdullahi, the new Executive Vice President (Downstream); and Mr. Udobong Ntia, the new Executive Vice President (Upstream).

"These conscientious leaders have a monumental responsibility ahead of them, one that demands they prioritize the collective welfare of NNPC Ltd and, by extension, all Nigerians, above individual or sectional interests. The nation anticipates their innovative solutions and transformative strategies that will elevate NNPC’s operational efficacy in alignment with the administration's vision and the pressing needs of the citizenry.

The Secretary General articulated that as a pressure group, they are resolute in their scrutiny of NNPC Ltd's actions and decisions, stressing that the Igbo people, as chief economic drivers in Nigeria's economy, understand that the efficient production, distribution, and pricing of petroleum products are paramount to our survival and prosperity. Our vigilance ensures that the interests of our people remain paramount in discussions surrounding energy policy and corporate governance at NNPC Ltd.

Furthermore, the Igbo apex group commended Mr. Kyari for exhibiting unwavering determination in ramping up crude oil production to a remarkable 1.8 million barrels per day—an impressive achievement in the annals of NNPC Ltd. Nonetheless, we emphasize the critical need for a focused strategy on rehabilitating the beleaguered refineries in Warri, Kaduna, and elsewhere.

"The effective operationalization of these facilities is not only crucial for ensuring energy security but also for maximizing the nation’s oil output potential and stabilizing prices for the Nigerian consumer" the.group added.

"Ohanaeze Ndigbo expresses steadfast optimism in the transformative potential of the new leadership at NNPC Ltd. The recent changes represent an opportunity to recalibrate and enhance the operational integrity of this vital sector, ensuring greater accountability, efficiency, and service delivery to the Nigerian people. With unity and an unwavering commitment to excellence, we can stride confidently towards eventual revitalization and growth".
