The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has condemned Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s recent actions at the National Assembly, where he disrupted proceedings and called for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Sharifudeen Ibrahim Muhammad, the group described Abaribe’s actions as a call for “total lawlessness” and a threat to national security.
The NYCN urged the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action by suspending and arresting the senator, arguing that his demands could embolden separatist movements in the Southeast.
“The senator’s outburst suggests he may have knowledge of those sponsoring IPOB’s terrorist activities in the region. His actions are not only reckless but also dangerous to the stability of the country,” the statement read.
The group also pointed out what it described as Abaribe’s inconsistency, noting that he had previously commended the arrest of Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafra agitator, in Finland, viewing it as a positive step toward restoring peace in the Southeast.
“This contradiction raises serious questions about his true motives and intentions,” the NYCN added.
It called on security agencies to closely monitor Abaribe’s activities and ensure that national unity is not undermined by divisive rhetoric.
