Northern stakeholders demand investigation into Hon. Ikenga led C’tee over alleged corruption

By Editor

The Northern Stakeholders Consultative Forum (NSCF) has called on the National Assembly, particularly the House of Representatives, to launch a comprehensive investigation into Hon. Ugochinyere Ikenga led disbanded committee on oil industry, following alarming allegations of bribery and corruption.

Hon. Ikenga, who was a co-chairman of a recently disbanded committee overseeing the oil industry, is accused of soliciting a substantial financial bribe and boasting about paying $1.7 million to secure his committee chairmanship.

Addressing the press in Kaduna, the forum expressed deep concern over the accusations, which they claim threaten to erode public trust in Nigeria's legislative process. The stakeholders emphasized that such misconduct not only undermines the integrity of the National Assembly but also poses a serious risk to the nation’s democratic foundations.

In a text of the briefing read by spokesperson of the forum,  Comrade Ali Mohammed Sani, in the presence of key forum members including the Convener Yerima Shettima, Secretary General Comrade Danjuma Paul, and Patron Abdulazeez Suleiman of the group, they  highlighted the potential consequences of the disbanded committee’s actions. They warned that if left unaddressed, the alleged misconduct could undermine the trust of the Nigerian populace in their elected officials and in the legislative framework that governs the country.

The forum further revealed that its ongoing investigations uncovered deeply troubling patterns of behavior by Hon. Ikenga. According to the group, “as recently as July 4, 2024, unusual activities were reported around the House of Representatives premises. Subsequent inquiries allegedly revealed that Hon. Ikenga had engaged private investigators to gather compromising information for the purpose of blackmailing the Speaker of the House, Hon. Tajudeen Abass, and the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Kalu Benjamin. “

The goal, the forum claimed, was to pressure the House leadership into allowing Ikenga to maintain his leadership role in the disbanded committee.

The forum urged the leadership of the House of Representatives to review CCTV footage from the House complex on the mentioned date, asserting that the recordings would validate their claims and expose the true intent behind Hon. Ikenga's actions.

The NSCF, in partnership with 72 other organizations, reiterated its commitment to promoting accountability, transparency, and ethical governance in Nigeria. They called for a swift and thorough investigation, stressing that the broader implications of unchecked misconduct within the legislature could be devastating to Nigeria's democracy.

The forum however emphasized the need for all stakeholders to take collective responsibility in addressing these alarming developments. They advocated for a legislative process that is transparent, ethical, and accountable, one that genuinely serves the Nigerian populace and restores faith in the nation’s democratic institutions.

Arewa Network Condemns $50,000 Blackmail Plot Against Nigeria's Defence of Minister

The Northern Awareness Network (NAN) has issued a strong statement in response to the troubling revelation of a $50,000 blackmail scheme targeting Nigeria's Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

According to a report by the Pacific News Times, an offer was made to a group of Arewa youths to orchestrate a smear campaign against the Minister, potentially undermining Nigeria's national security. NAN Chairman, Salihu Sulaiman, who signed the statement, characterized this revelation as "incontrovertible proof" of a larger conspiracy aimed at destabilizing Nigeria's security framework.

"The audacity of offering $50,000 to compromise the credibility of a high-ranking Minister reflects the serious intent of these destabilizing forces," said Sulaiman. "This suggests a coordinated effort, fueled by international actors, to undermine governance and national cohesion in Nigeria."

The NAN statement also highlighted the recent emergence of a video featuring notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, making unsubstantiated allegations against Minister Matawalle. The timing of these allegations, coupled with the foiled #Endbadgovernance protests, and the ugly dimensions they took in northern Nigeria have painted a grim picture of an orchestrated campaign intended to destabilize the North and weaken the federal government's machinery.

Ambassador Abdul Danbature, one of the organizers of the protests, disclosed that the offer came to him from a foreign source through a local intermediary. This detail accentuates the fears voiced by the Arewa Network regarding the involvement of foreign powers in the unnecessary protests over domestic Nigerian strife. The fact that a sum as significant as $50,000 was allegedly offered to tarnish the image of a senior government official points to a meticulously orchestrated campaign with potentially dire consequences. This campaign appears to transcend mere political rivalry, revealing a concerning agenda fueled by actors whose interests lie outside Nigeria’s stability.

The Arewa Network characterizes this blackmail plot as corroborative evidence of a broader conspiracy to destabilize Nigeria, particularly in light of recent protests purportedly meant to undermine national authority. They draw connections between the timing of these protests and the earlier media attention drawn by a video from the notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, who made unsubstantiated claims against Minister Matawalle. The group suggests that such synchronizations indicate a strategic plan aimed at diminishing the Nigerian government’s credibility and eroding public support—especially in a politically sensitive climate leading up to the 2027 elections.

The implications of such destabilization are especially acute in the Northern region, where escalating violence and insecurity have been persistent challenges. The Arewa Network underscores that the August are designed to create an environment wherein the government appears incapable of protecting its citizens, ultimately challenging the legitimacy of the ruling administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The timing of these planned protests appears calculated not only to disrupt governance but also to destabilize the political landscape, particularly by targeting the ruling party’s support base in the North.

In light of these alarming developments, the NAN called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration to take proactive measures to counteract the destabilizing maneuvers of these groups. The Network emphasizes the need for the government to engage in comprehensive consultations with genuine Northern groups and critical stakeholders to strengthen Nigeria's security and stability ahead the crucial 2027 elections.

The Arewa Network emphasizes that it is unacceptable for foreign entities to allow Nigerian Diaspora forces to exploit their mediums and platforms to foment chaos in Nigeria. It challenges the international community, particularly those governments that have historically claimed to support democratic principles, to take tangible actions against individuals or organizations perpetuating violence and unrest under the guise of political dissent.

The internationally recognized right to peaceful protest is couched within the broader framework of civic responsibility, and it should not serve as a cover for violence or sabotage against a sovereign state's efforts to maintain order and ensure security. The principles underpinning international laws, such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), affirm that while peaceful protest is a vestige of democracy, it does not provide carte blanche for inciting violence or civil disobedience. Reinforcing the rule of law, while respecting citizens' rights, is essential in preserving the social contract.

Consequently, the NAN urged the international community to take a firm stance against the use of their space and media platforms to endorse or promote activities that could destabilize Nigeria. The involvement of foreign entities in fostering unrest must not be overlooked, as allowing such behavior to persist undermines Nigeria's sovereignty and endangers the peace and stability of the wider sub-Saharan region.

"Finally, the global implications stemming from a destabilized Nigeria extend far beyond its borders. As the most populous nation in Africa, Nigeria plays a critical role in maintaining regional stability. Instability within its borders could induce cascading effects across the sub-Saharan region, disrupting peace initiatives, exacerbating humanitarian crises, and facilitating the proliferation of terrorism and organized crime. Given these realities, it is not merely in Nigeria's interest but also in the strategic interests of the international community to foster conditions conducive to peace and stability," Sulaiman concluded. "The time for concerted action is now; the stakes could not be higher."

International Conspiracy: $50,000 Blackmail Plot Targeting Matawalle Aims to Destabilize Nigeria

By Suleiman Abbah

The revelation by Ambassador Abdul Danbature of a $50,000 blackmail plot against Nigeria's Defence Minister Bello Mohammed Matawalle has sent shockwaves across the nation. This disturbing report, originally brought to light by the Pacific News Times, exposes a dangerous scheme aimed at undermining Nigeria's national security by tarnishing the reputation of a key government official.

The earlier emergence of a video featuring a notorious bandit leader making baseless allegations against Minister Matawalle, coupled with the timing of these allegations in conjunction with the foiled #Endbadgovernance protests, paints a grim picture of an orchestrated campaign intended to destabilize the North and weaken the federal government's machinery.

Danbature's disclosure that the financial inducement was offered to tarnish the image of a senior government official suggests a meticulously planned campaign with potentially dire consequences. The ambitious offer to assassinate the character and reputation of a key defense figure within the Nigerian government is emblematic of a troubling trend of international interference in the country's internal affairs.

The context surrounding this blackmail plot suggests a more comprehensive agenda at play, drawing connections between the alleged smear campaign and strategic sociopolitical events transpiring in Nigeria's northern region. The correlation between these events and the presence of media narratives featuring unsubstantiated accusations against Minister Matawalle hints at a local conspiracy with the potential involvement of international collusion

This revelation highlights the vulnerability of Nigeria's political system to external interference and manipulation. It raises questions about the integrity and security of the country's government officials and institutions. If a Defence Minister can be targeted for blackmail, what other key figures in the government are at risk of being compromised?

The implications of this blackmail plot go beyond just one individual or ministry. It speaks to broader issues of corruption, influence-peddling, and foreign interference in Nigeria's political landscape. It raises concerns about the extent to which the country's sovereignty and national security are being threatened by external actors seeking to manipulate and control key decision-makers.

The fact that the offer came through a local intermediary suggests that there may be domestic collaborators involved in this nefarious scheme. This raises questions about the extent to which corruption and collusion are undermining the integrity of Nigeria's political system and eroding public trust in the government.

Ambassador Abdul Danbature's decision to expose this blackmail plot takes courage and integrity. It demonstrates a commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. It sends a strong message that such attempts to undermine Nigeria's national security will not go unchallenged and that those responsible will be held accountable.

The involvement of external actors in Nigeria's internal affairs is a cause for concern and requires a coordinated response from the government, law enforcement, and security agencies. It is essential to identify the individuals and entities behind this blackmail plot and to take appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The ongoing machinations aimed at disrupting the relationship between the President and Matawalle serve as a reminder of the complex interplay of power, loyalty, and influence in Nigerian politics. The Minister’s steadfast defense of the President’s ideals highlights not only his indispensable role within the administration but also underscores the threats felt by those who perceive his growing influence as a challenge.

The engagement of foreign collaborators in this political tug-of-war signifies more than mere transactional politics; it reflects a deep-seated anxiety among self-appointed adversaries of President Bola Tinubu. These individuals perceive the Matawalle's growing influence and proximity to the President as a direct challenge to their aspirations and agendas. In a political landscape that is fraught with volatility, the Minister emerges as a singularly indomitable force, showcasing not only loyalty but also a nuanced understanding of the complexities involved in governance.

Indeed, the Matawalle's ability to cross these treacherous waters, marked by both external pressures and internal dissent, positions him as a crucial bulwark against the multitude of storms that threaten Tinubu and the administration. His unwavering support for the President’s ideals, coupled with a strategic vision for the future of Nigeria, illustrates why he is increasingly seen as the only reliable figure amidst a cacophony of competing interests. This reality is particularly disconcerting for those who feel their political capital waning in light of the Minister’s ascendancy.

Moreover, the deliberate attempts to create rifts between the President and Matawalle seem to stem from an understanding that collaboration between these key figures is essential for reinforcing governance and addressing the myriad challenges facing Nigeria today. The Minister’s role in fortifying this collaboration and enhancing the President’s support base cannot be overstated. His commitment to the President’s agenda reflects a rare blend of political acumen and visionary leadership, qualities that his detractors find increasingly threatening.

As Nigeria navigates its multifaceted challenges, the Minister's position as a reliable ally of the President will undoubtedly continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s political landscape and ensuring that Tinubu's ideals of governance are effectively promoted and defended.

The timing of this revelation, during a period of heightened political sensitivity, indicates that there are concerted efforts to destabilize Nigeria's leadership and create chaos and confusion. It is imperative that the government remains vigilant and takes proactive steps to safeguard the country's national security and protect its key officials from external threats.

The fact that a foreign source was willing to offer such a significant sum of money to compromise the Defence Minister's credibility underscores the lengths to which some actors are willing to go to achieve their nefarious objectives. It is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by external interference in Nigeria's political affairs and the need for constant vigilance and decisive action to counter such threats.

.As Nigeria's political environment grows increasingly complex, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must remain vigilant and proactive in countering destabilizing maneuvers aimed at undermining the government. Collaboration with international partners who share a vested interest in maintaining peace and stability in Nigeria is crucial. It is imperative for the international community to respect Nigeria's sovereignty and support its government in upholding law and order.

The issue of national integrity and security is of paramount importance for Nigeria, a nation facing numerous internal and external threats to its stability and democratic order. Nigeria's unity and security are constantly under strain from various sources - an insurgency and banditry in the North, ethnic and communal tensions, secessionist agitations, and the infiltration of criminal elements. Robust and proactive measures are absolutely necessary to confront the forces of destabilization and safeguard the principles of democracy, peace, and good governance.

Decisive action is required to neutralize these threats and reaffirm the government's capacity to protect its people. Crucially, this effort must involve a united national front, with all arms of government, security agencies, and the general public working in concert. Divisive partisanship or sectarian loyalties have no place when the very foundations of the Nigerian state are at risk.

Politicians, community leaders, and opinion-shapers must rise above narrow interests and rally the populace around the common cause of preserving the country's territorial integrity and social cohesion. Beyond the domestic front, Nigeria also requires the understanding and support of the international community.

As the most populous country in Africa and a regional powerhouse, Nigeria's stability is intrinsically linked to the peace and security of the entire sub-Saharan region. A destabilized Nigeria would have dire consequences, from exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in neighboring countries to fueling the scourges of human trafficking and irregular migration.

Therefore, Nigeria's bilateral and multilateral partnerships must be anchored in the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty, the promotion of peace, and adherence to international legal norms. While the international community has a legitimate role to play in encouraging democratic reforms and upholding human rights, its interventions should not be employed to undermine Nigeria's legitimate efforts to restore law and order.

Peaceful protests are a constitutional right, but violence and destruction of public property cannot be tolerated in the name of protest. Ultimately, the defense of Nigeria's national integrity and security is a responsibility that transcends partisan politics or ideological divides. It requires a comprehensive strategy that combines robust law enforcement, intelligence-gathering, and conflict resolution mechanisms with a unifying national narrative that resonates with all Nigerians.

Only through such a concerted effort can the country overcome the specter of chaos and uphold the democratic aspirations of its people.

AYCF Raises Alarm Over Plot To Undermine Stability Of Nation

The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has raised concerns regarding threats to Nigeria's stability in a recent press release by its President General, Yerima Shettima.

The AYCF, representing the youth of Northern Nigeria, has highlighted several alarming incidents that it believes are part of a deliberate strategy to undermine the stability of the nation.

AYCF raised particular concerns over the integrity of political leadership in Nigeria's northern region with revelations specifically pointing to a plot targeting prominent figures, including the Vice President Kashim Shettima, Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, and Senator AbdulAziz Yari.

The orchestrations, revealed by Abdul Dan Bature, one of the organizers of the August 1 protests, particularly the $50,000 scheme focused on Minister Matawalle, cast a long shadow over the political landscape, engendering suspicions about the motives behind such malign activities.

The AYCF’s called for a deeper inquiry into the political dynamics that may underlie these attacks apparently aimed at undermining the political influence of northern leaders, who are deemed crucial to the support base of President Bola Tinubu's administration. By targeting these key figures, the orchestrators of this scheme may be attempting to create divisions between the President and the northern political ranks, thereby destabilizing the broader political landscape of Nigeria.

Shettima said such revelations highlight a greater concern regarding the safety and security of political office holders in a nation where power struggles often lead to nefarious tactics. The implications of such blackmail campaigns possess the potential to disrupt governance and compromise the effectiveness of leadership, particularly at a time when national unity and stability are paramount.

The $50,000 plot against Minister Matawalle serves as a poignant reminder of the lengths to which President Tinubu's adversaries go to in their desperation to strip him of the influence of such powerful political figures in the North.

The specificity of Matawalle as the target illustrates a calculated approach to weaken the President's existing political structure within the northern region. Minister Matawalle’s pivotal role in the defence sector amplifies the stakes involved, suggesting that such attacks could also compromise national security by diverting attention from pressing matters of state.

The AYCF posits that the recent incidents of protests, unrest and the mounting agitations across Nigeria signal a broader and more daunting objective: the potential disruption of governance with intentions that may verge on coercive change.

The notion that a systematic approach is at play raises serious concerns not merely for political actors but for the collective stability of the nation. In light of the fragmented nature of Nigeria's socio-political landscape, the potential for exploitation of existing divisions—particularly those rooted in ethnicity and religion—becomes a pressing reality that necessitates both urgency and vigilance.

Evidence of escalating tensions is starkly illuminated by recent protests in regions like Kaduna, Taraba, Benue, Katsina, and Kano, areas marked by deep-seated ethnic and religious divides.

The AYCF cautions that unrestrained unrest in these regions could devolve into pervasive violence, thereby ushering Nigeria toward a state of chaos that could spiral beyond recovery. Such scenarios evoke an atmosphere of uncertainty and fear, undermining the very tenets of governance and security.
In addressing these alarming revelations, it becomes imperative for relevant authorities to conduct thorough investigations into the claims made by the AYCF.

The integrity of the political system must be upheld, and those engaging in blackmail schemes should be held accountable to restore public confidence in governance.

As the nation grapples with such malfeasance, it is vital for Nigerian society to remain vigilant and demand accountability to safeguard its democratic values and ensure a future of political integrity.

Hajiya Halimat Adenike Tejuosho: Celebrating a Philanthropist's Extraordinary Contributions to Humanitarian Sector, Nation Building

By MUKHTAR Ya'u Madobi

In a world where selflessness is often overshadowed by personal gain, few individuals stand out as true beacons of hope and generosity. One such individual is Hajiya Halimat Adenike Tejuosho, the Founder/Chief Executive Officer of Queen Adenike Tejuosho Foundation, (QAT Foundation).

Over the years, she has been a remarkable humanitarian cum philanthropist whose tireless efforts have continued impacting the lives of countless people in Nigeria. By utilizing her resources and unwavering commitment through the QAT Foundation, this philanthropist has made significant strides in alleviating the sufferings of vulnerable populations, including people living with disabilities (PWDs), women, youths, and students.

The impact of her work has been profound, ranging from awarding scholarships to providing empowerment in the form of financial grants and start-up capital and engaging in various corporate social responsibility initiatives across several communities.

As such, several beneficiaries across different quarters in Nigeria are singing praise for their life saviour, Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho for her unwavering efforts and dedication towards improving their livelihoods through her giant strides.

Hajiya Halimat has always been at the forefront of exhibiting and displaying uncommon patriotism by always working for the betterment of Nigeria and its citizens. This love for her dear country was once again demonstrated during the ongoing nationwide hunger protests where she has been traveling across the nook and crannies of the country thereby sensitizing the minds of the populace, especially youths on the danger of violent approaches in registering grievances.

According to Halimat Tejuosho, embracing constructive dialogue between citizens and government will help better in facilitating and paving the way for Tinubu's administration to address the current concerns and uplift the country to greater heights.

Firstly, she visited Kogi State and preached peace to the people, as a result, the Coalition of Concerned Kogi Indigenes (CCKI)- a group with more than 1 million active members announced their withdrawal from participating in the national Protests. This timely intervention by Hajiya Halimat was the main reason why the hunger protests couldn't see the light of day in the confluence state.

Again, she equally risked her life and stormed Jos, the capital city of Plateau State, where a significant level of violence including vandalism and looting of properties was recorded during the protests. She also preaches the gospel of peace to the participants by assuring them of Tinubu's administration's commitment and dedication to addressing their grievances and his efforts in building a Nigeria where every citizen is dreaming.

This masterstroke demonstrated by the Iron Lady has no doubt helped greatly in dousing tensions across the North-central state.

Meanwhile, as a testament to Hajiya Halimat's empathy and great service towards people with special needs, the Arewa Youth with Disabilities Forum paid her a courtesy visit in Abuja last month to ” identify with the philanthropist who has demonstrated uncommon dedication in caring for the less privileged using her resources."

Therefore, it was not surprising when the guests seized the moment and honored the seasoned Humanitarian advocate with the award of  'PWDs Model and Philanthropist of the Year.’ This development has further demonstrated her untiring and selfless service to the PWDs community, the downtrodden and the elderly across the 19 northern states and the country at large.

In his address, the President of Arewa Youth With Disabilities Forum, Mallam Muhammad Musa Zaria thanked their host for welcoming them and restated their appreciation of her tireless efforts in ameliorating the plight of People Living With Disabilities (PWDs) all over the country. He prayed to Almighty Allah to make it easy for her and grant her heart desires.

“We are proud to identify with you. Indeed you are a worthy Ambassador of our community as you have consistently offered your entire life for the betterment of the downtrodden. Even as we continue to call for your nomination as the Honourable Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, our prayers are with you and we are convinced you will  perform excellently well, so using our resources on you at any rate is in line.”

No doubt, judging by the sensitive nature of the Humanitarian Ministry and the fact that the leadership position has been left vacant for a long time due to corruption and ineptitude, it is therefore, high time to consider a person worthy of recognition for replacement so that Nigerians can continue smiling even in the present economic hardships.

The Need for a Leader in Humanitarian Affairs

In light of these extraordinary contributions, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should consider appointing Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho to the vacant position of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation courtesy of her good track record of performance in helping the needy. The strategic importance of this ministry cannot be overstated, especially during these critical times.

Nigeria is home to a diverse and dynamic population, but it is also a country grappling with significant humanitarian challenges. Millions of Nigerians live in poverty, with many more facing vulnerabilities due to disabilities, gender inequalities, and lack of access to education and economic opportunities. The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation plays a crucial role in addressing these issues, by providing essential support and services to those in need.

With Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho at the helm, the ministry would benefit from a leader who has firsthand experience and a proven track record of making a difference in people's lives. Her deep understanding of the challenges being faced by marginalized communities, coupled with her innovative approaches to problem-solving, would ensure that the ministry's programs are both effective and impactful.

One of the standout aspects of Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho's work is her focus on empowerment. By awarding scholarships, she has paved the way for opportunities for countless students, enabling them to pursue their dreams and contribute to the nation's development. Also, her giant strides in using personal resources to provide start-up materials and capital have empowered women and youths to start their businesses, fostering economic independence and growth within communities.

Such initiatives align perfectly with the goals of the 'Renewed Hope Agenda' of President Tinubu aimed at making Nigeria a better place for the citizens to thrive. No doubt, if given a chance to lead the Ministry, with her vast experiences and skills, Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho could expand these programs, reaching even more people and creating a ripple effect of positive change across the country. Her vision for empowerment and sustainable development would be instrumental in driving the ministry's mission forward.

Again, The importance of having a dedicated leader for this Ministry like Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho cannot be overstated, especially during these critical times when Nigeria is facing a range of challenges, from economic instability to social unrest. The ministry's role in providing humanitarian aid, supporting poverty alleviation initiatives, and promoting social inclusion is more crucial than ever.

Leaving the ministry without a leader hampers its ability to respond effectively to these challenges. It is essential to have a capable and compassionate individual at the helm, someone who can steer the ministry towards achieving its goals and ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind.

Therefore, the appointment of Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho would bring much-needed stability and direction to the ministry, allowing it to operate at its full potential.

In a nutshell, Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho is not only a commendable individual whose philanthropic efforts have transformed countless lives but also the ideal candidate to lead the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Her appointment would be a testament to President Tinubu's commitment to addressing the pressing humanitarian needs of the nation and empowering its most vulnerable citizens.

As Nigeria navigates through these challenging times, the leadership of someone as dedicated and visionary as Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho is essential. Her proven track record, deep empathy, and innovative approaches to humanitarian work make her the perfect choice to steer the ministry towards a brighter and more inclusive future for all Nigerians.

Rest assured, if considered, the appointment of Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho would be a 'square peg in a square hole.' Surely!
